I've been saying this for YEARS.

Plain & simple, our hobby is dying. But it's not just our hobby, it's EVERY collectible hobby. Doesn't matter if it's coins, stamps, baseball cards or comics. Young people today are just NOT trying to put collections together.

When I talk to Millennials or Generation Y'ers, those aged 15-30, two themes quickly emerge. Like Doc pointed out, their love of electronics. But secondly & more importantly, the idea of minimalism. Actually accumulating "stuff" goes against the core of who they are. They want to own/control less. They've watched the frustration of their parents trying to make the mortgage payment while the value of their homes declined. Hence, many don't wish to own a home. They realize the uncertainty of a 40-year career or a pension. Many have graduated from college only to have tremendous student loan debt but unable to find work in the field they majored in. They're much more careful how they spend their money. And when they do spend it, they want to spend it on adventures & experiences NOT on things. Simply, many will never become collectors of anything short of maybe video games.

Sadly, I believe the collector is a dying breed and I'm not sure there is a whole lot we can really do about it.

I could go on but I guess that's enough doom & gloom. Pretty much my 2¢ and I'm sure many will disagree with me. I truly hope I am wrong.
