"If negotiated properly, room rates at say Bally's/Paris should not be to far from what we are getting at South Point." ....Kruse
I'm not too sure about that Jim, but I hope so. It is my understanding that the only reason that the club members escaped paying the daily "resort fee" (or whatever it is called) at South Point, is because our multiple year contract with the hotel was negotiated before that fee went into effect. So no matter where the convention is held after next year (June 22-26, 2016 - our final year, contractually speaking at South Point; unless renewed) club members will probably be forced to pay the additional tax wherever the convention is held in 2017.
Regarding downtown ... Since the South Point ballroom is way too large for the club's current needs (which is why the room looks so empty) compared to the much smaller ballroom at Riviera 2004 which we outgrew ... see photo below; perhaps a smaller facility can be found, like the Plaza. I think the annual bottle show is held there, and I have attended a few coin shows held at the Plaza. Don't know if the Plaza would be suitable for our space requirements. The BOD will have their hands full with this decision, with which some of our members will disagree no matter what is finally decided.
Thanks for your input.
