Does anyone care what I think? Probably not, but that's OK. I love South Point, and I think Michael is the best operator in Las Vegas, he gives players what they want. But, we're getting stagnant. Ideally a center strip property would be best for the shot in the butt that we need. It will be very hard to find that. We probably will have to move everything to a mid-week convention. Why? Real simple, they don't need us to fill their rooms on weekends. By comparison, we are a very small convention. Can we make a move like that? Maybe, if we are smart about it, and we our willing to sacrifice some things. Should the Board send out for bids? No, save the stamp, you will get a standard convention sales response. How do we go about it? You need to find a connection in upper management who will front you in. Then the people who handle convention sales will deal with you on a more personal level. If negotiated properly, room rates at say Bally's/Paris should not be to far from what we are getting at South Point. The problem will come from catering requirements, and securing all of the space we require for our events. Again, we will have give up some activities. The other options are off strip, like the Orleans or downtown where the only options would be Golden Nugget or Plaza. This will prove to be a real challenge. Good luck to our Board and remember, think outside of the box.
