You gotta laugh, cuz it hurts too much to cry.
I'm in the midst of a HARP refinance which almost got through the bank underwriters. All they need is 3 years' past tax returns, but gotten from the IRS directly. They apparently don't trust my true and correct copies. So I signed an authorization for records which they sent on to the IRS. Easy? Well, no. Because the IRS claims I am a victim of identity theft, they refuse to provide the tax returns. (Presumably the fraudulent return, no doubt requesting a refund, would show the address of the ID crook.)
So, it looks like no HARP refinance, and no other refi or home purchase available to me for the rest of my life. No use trying to sue the IRS. They have their own Court and always win.
