I haven't had much trouble getting chips from the casinos but then I haven't had as much experience collecting chips as a lot of you have.
Can only remember three times that I was refused chips and I eventually got the chips I wanted. Once at Buffalo Billy's in Cripple Creek, Co I asked for some LE chips at the cage trying to get some Donkey Derby Days chips. They told me NO! "You can't buy chips here, we have thousands of chips in our files and we are not going thru them to find special chips for you." My feathers were a little ruffled but before we left the casino we stopped by the promotions booth. The lady there asked how we were doing. I told her about my experience at the cage. She said "Wait a Minute". Made a phone call and said go to the cage and get what you want. Needless to say the clerk at the cage was not too happy but we got what we wanted.
Another time at the same casino we were playing Black Jack and I asked if I could buy some 25 cent chips and the pit boss said NO. After he walked away the dealer sold us some anyway. I told him I didn't want to get him in trouble. He said not to worry about it.
Once at a casino in Mississippi we were refused chips by a pit boss. While I was fuming about not getting the chips I wanted a manager came by, asked how we were doing. Told him we were not happy about not being able to buy chips. He spoke to the pit boss and we got our chips.
Oh, yeah. When I first started collecting a friend told me that Caesars had a $7.50 chip. I didn't know any better and the next time we were in Las Vegas and staying at Caesars I went to the cage and asked about the $7.50 chip. The clerk read me the riot act. She informed me that not only did they not have a chip of that denomination, there was no reason for them to have one and she demanded to know why I thought they would have one like that. I was so embarrassed that I left with my tail between my legs. Have gotten a littler thicker skinned since then.
I have found many of the people in the cages and or tables will go out of their way to help you find what you want. Once the lady at the cage at the Colorado Bell in Laughlin not only went to the back to find some better chips, she brought them out in air tights. A fellow at the Easy Street Casino in Central City, CO once took the time and trouble to clean a chip and put it in an air tight for me. These are the people who get the tips.
Happy Harvesting Ya'll.
