Every dollar of gambling winnings is taxable. The issue becomes how much is reported to the IRS, and how much is concealed from the IRS. As a lawyer who also practices before the IRS, I will never encourage people to conceal income. People can debate what the law should be; my post was intended to help understand what the law is and how the reporting requirements and accounting principles might be changing.
