An Observation

If you look at the early Flamingo pictures you see a power line along the south property line. For some reason the power line easement left a narrow parcel between it and Flamingo Road. The same situation existed across LV Blvd. There is a story that Howard Hughes owned the parcel alongside Caesars which he lease to them for parking. Hughes sold the parcel to Steve Wynn. I always found this curious as I believe it's the only Nevada property that Hughes ever sold and I wondered why. I asked Bob Maheu more than once but never got an answer. I'm guessing he wasn't part of the decision. In any event Wynn quickly announced plans to erect a hotel and Caesars freaked out and bought the property providing a very quick and substantial profit which Wynn used to buy the Golden Nugget. Over the years the power lines had grown tremendously in wattage. Maybe a couple of decades ago Caesars arranged to have the power lines moved to be along Flamingo and not through their property. As far as I know they still separate the Flamingo and the old Barbary Coast property.
