In short... It is illegal to reuse a postage stamp whether cancelled or not...

Probably a good idea to check with local post office to see exactly what the code reads... or if there are/were any changes.

I also remember reading about certain cancellations (done by carrier) with a pen show up under a blacklight-type machine.
