I didn't know Ernie Banks was the first black Ford Motor Company dealer in the United States. Even though Ernie was never paid among the top players in baseball, he learned a lot of business advice from Mr. Philip K. Wrigley, and Mr. Banks invested VERY wisely. His estimated wealth is currently around $4 million. Not bad for a buy who never made more than $65K a year playing baseball!
I am hoping right now that Jack Brickhouse, Ron Santo, sweet-swinging Billy Williams and Mr. Philip K. Wrigley met Ernie at the pearly gates, handed him his glove and bat, winked at him and said "Come on Ernie. Let's play two!"
