I posted a few days ago asking if anyone knew the first name of H.C. Edwards, who created the "H" mold in the early 1920s.

After digging around the internet for a few days, I found a Harry C. Edwards living in New York in the early 1920s. He was a prominent artist, illustrator and amateur actor who was born in Philadelphia and educated in New York. But there was no way to be sure he was the same "H.C. Edwards" of the H.C. Edwards Co., and the H mold.

Enter David Spraag in the UK, who noted that an early 1920s HCE catalog showed detailed illustrations. Armed with a first name, David found a list of H.C. Edwards's books. One was published by Alonzo Burt, owner of The Burt Co., an earlier incarnation of Classic Poker Chips, with whom the H mold currently resides.

Clearly, Alonzo Burt and Harry "H.C." Edwards were associates, and the connection to the Burt Company proves the artist H.C. Edwards was also connected to the H mold and H.C. Edwards Company. (The company only had two molds -- the H mold and the broken circles mold.

So the "H" on the mold is for "Harry," and the mold designer was an accomplished artist, illustrator and actor.
