In 1952, Norman Reinburg operated a bar called Dopey Norman's in Vallejo, California, and applied for gaming and liquor licenses in Douglas County, Nevada, to open another Dopey Norman's club along the California/Nevada state line, at the end of George's Gateway Club in Stateline, Nevada.
Norman Reinburg ran Dopey Norman's club in Stateline from 1952-1953, when Anthony Grech took over and it became Tony's Slot Machine Bar. Tony's and George's Gateway Club were bought by Bill Harrah in 1955, and it became the original Harrah's Club at Lake Tahoe. In 1968, it became Harrah's Thrifty Gambler, before being sold to Harvey's next door.
