Things are changing this year for credit card use in the USA. I just got an email from Costco pointing out what will change in October this year; I had heard nothing of this and I do try to stay in touch with the financial world. Read this article:

The principal change that surprised me is that if you take a credit card in payment and fraud is determined in how the card was presented to you, you the seller are probably responsible for any loss rather than the bank issuing the credit card. Part of this is concerned with the use of a microchip on the card rather than just a magnetic strip that required an online connection to confirm.
There's also an article in the Wall Street Journal on the subject but you have to be a subscriber to read it on line so I'm not linking to that.
