The first time I saw U2, there were about 60 people in the audience. It was at a place that held 120 (Old Waldorf, San Francisco), but it was raining that night and the place was less than half full. There was a dance floor and I spend most of the time within 10 feet of the band. They had the drummer raised on a platform behind the band and Bono played (sort of) the guitar on most of the songs. It was one of the most energetic and best concerts I ever saw. I knew they were going to be big.
