I thought we were talking national debt, not per capita debt.

Per capita several countries have higher debt than the US. I believe the UK's per capita debt is higher than the US. However, in the all important National Debt, the UK is more like half the US.

Now, having doubled our debt in the last 6 years might just be part of the reason for our dangerously high debt.
