It all started with this match cover from the Y-Not Bar in Carson City. I've had the cover for a few years and it is not listed in The Gaming Table. So I Goggled the place, got a current phone # and called. The bartender said he had worked there for 8 years and was familiar with the history of the place and more so my interest in when the place opened and if the still had gaming as advertised on my cover. The bartender said "I don't know when it opened but it opened 33 years ago." i.e. 1981. He said this was not the bars original location but was located originally somewhere in downtown Carson at the site of the former 408 Club which I had not heard of. They still have machines of some sort and the bartender had and older book not matching the one I described and said he would send it to me for my collection which was nice!!!!!
Now the part I also want share with the collectors who congregate here on the chip board and those who are into NV history is a new book that the bartender suggested called "The Bars of Nevada"
Once again I Goggled the title and got a phone # to order. Called the # and got directly to one of the authors who was based in Carson City and he was more than friendly but also shared a common interest, Nevada history!! He and three of his buddies decided to visit over 400 bars through out rural Nevada over a 4 year period and document their journeys. I am very excited to read the subsequent book and I thought others here would be as well. And for $23 it seems like "a square deal". He did say the book was thoroughly illustrated and also covers local history, folklore, jokes and I'm sure a few seedy characters encountered along the way. Here's a link with ordering info.
