I would have to dispute that one. The film had a worldwide box office total of less than $8.4 million. That would probably equate a worldwide film rental in the area of $4 million total. In fact, Wikipedia reports that its Domestic opening weekend of $2.7 million was the lowest for a wide release movie since 1982 (a stretch of 25 years).
The production cost for the film was reportedly $55 million. My guess would be that they spent no less than $6.5 million on prints and at least $20+ million on advertising (maybe double that), so to call this film an utter disaster would be understating things. Warner Brothers could have lost in the neighborhood of $90-$100 million on this film.
