Counterfeit? to good to be true?

Recently, there have been some chips for sale on Ebay, that are in immaculate condition, and on top of that, they are very rare, some are prototypes, extemely rare. I purchased one of the chips and it was supposed to have been issued in 1951, yet it is absolutely flawless! This makes me happy, and the fact that I paid 1/6th the low ball price in the TCR, has made me even happier, but I am new to the hobbie, and new, of the same, chips are being relisted the next week, Chips, TCR have listed at $599 are selling for $40, all this is ringing alarms in my head.........Is this all to good to be true?
