Reno Hotel; Sands Club revisited

For those going to Reno tomorrow (Memorial Day) to see the grand opening of the new Whitney Peak Hotel, built on the site of the former Fitzgeralds, remember it is a non gambling and non smoking hotel! (no chips) Speaking of Emeryville cardrooms, I was looking at my Sands Club chips the other day. As you remember , Al Olson, who had sold the Corona Club in 1976 opened the Vegas Club on the site of the former ABC Club at 4114 San Pablo Ave. The Vegas club shut down shortly and reopened as the Sands Club. It operated there through 1977 when it shut down. A second incarnation: the license was kept alive by annual renewal, and the club reopened in 1986 in a recently closed 2 story Wells Fargo bank building, a flatiron building, at 3958 San Pablo. It was now operated by Albert Olson and Bob Payette, and lasted until1988 when it closed for good. The chips: I prefer the earlier chips from the earlier club they have gilt inscriptions (the same at both sites), which transliterate as: Hau-Hau Ju(4) le(4) bu. or: hauhau julebu. HauHau can and probably here means "Excellent" 3 characters Ju, le, and bu mean "club". the flatiron site had signs in the windows in Chinese and advertised pai gow poker. The chips used in the later site have a picture in white of the building (kind of hard to see) *translations verified by native speaker.
