Dear Mr. Charles,
Your suggestions are absolutely correct. That is, if we are large scale for profit operation. Unless one is retired or has the luxury of both time and money, it is almost impossible to find anyone who is willing to put in the huge amount of time it takes to do the things you suggest. I have been in this club for a long time and would like to share a few observations:
1. It has been basically the same people for the longest time who have done a great job putting in the effort to make this club a fun thing to do, put out a great magazine, and a fabulous convention. They have the requisite love of the club and also time to make it happen. They have put in long hours without pay to keep this going year after year.
2. Membership growth has always been a challenge and always will be. Let's be frank, this hobby mostly appeals to us older guys who enjoy casino history and collecting the items associated with it. There is only a limited market that we appeal to. Maybe if you can get Kim Kardashian to join and start collecting and have a GTCC reality show with her in it or some other celebrity will we be able to garner some broader interest.
3. We operate more like a fraternity than a formal club. We want to meet our old friends and have fun in Vegas for a few days. I for one truly enjoy seeing everyone at the convention and having a great time. I want to pick up a few gems for my collection, maybe a real nice piece if Kruse or Tyrus are nice to me and then eat, drink, gamble and be merry. I am not interested in coming to Vegas to listen to boilerplate or hear rancor over the club. I am here to have fun! We have always self policed ourselves and would hate to see the Club become more complicated.
4. Not one member has ever expressed to me a desire for the club to be more formal. It's too much already. And I can almost guarantee that nobody wants to pay anymore money to the club for anything.
Mr. Charles, we all appreciate your membership and interest in the club. Please enjoy it for what it is. I personally think things are fine with the club and hope to see things stay the same.
