Here is a little history of the Club Mar del Plata in Mar del Plata, Argentina. In the later part of the 1800's many people in from the wealthier families in Buenos Aries visited Mar Del Plata, it was a beach resort area away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Many families of Argentine society had Summer homes in the area. in the early 1900's it was decided to build a club where the better families could enjoy themselves and a casino was part of the mix. The Club Mar del Plata opened in 1910.

By the 1930's the Club Mar del Plata had lost some of it's luster. The massive Central Casino was built about a quarter mile down the beach and opened in 1939.

In the 1940's, during the Juan Peron era, the Club building was appropriated by the government and was used for various offices.

In February of 1961 a tragic fire destroyed much of the building and what was left could not be saved and was torn down. Today only a small park remains at the site. Also, remaining are my two jetons to remind us of what once was.
