I do recommend hitting all of the local Pawns, Antiques, etc. with any scans of the stolen goods. The cops just don't have time to do it.
I've recovered some of my stuff that way, and that lit a fire under the cops, such that they put some effort in also, and found most of the rest.

And you have to go over all of the craigslist ads right away, and keep looking. My cousin found goods stolen from him on CL two hours after the theft. Cops went and picked up the goods and the sellers :-)
