Fred -- one of the best canyon vistas available outside the Grand Canyon is the Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Amarillo where you can actually drive your car from the rim to the canyon's bottom. Entrance fee is $5 per person. When we drove to the chip convention two years ago, we spent the night in Amarillo. Hours June through August 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
