The Slew won the triple crown in 1977. In 1978 the Slew crew fired trainer Billy Turner, and hired Doug Peterson as Slews trainer. Doug was a So Cal trainer, and a good friend of mine, often I was invited to the winners circle for picture's of the winning horse, all were at So. Cal. tracks. In 1978 Doug ran the Slew in 4 different graded stakes back east, won 3 second once, for $473,000 in pruses. Slew total purses 1.2 million, of course made much more than that as a stud. The end of the story is sad, Doug died at the hollwood Pard hotel in 2004 from a drug over dose.
