I'm not a baccarat player, but here's how I interpret the rules and how you might benefit from knowing something about the first card of a hand to be dealt.
The first card out of the shoe on each hand goes to "Player". You can bet either "Player" or "Banker", and change your choice from hand to hand.
If you can see the back of the next card in the shoe and know whether it is a favorable or unfavorable card, only bet "Player" when it's a favorable card. Otherwise, bet Banker. You only have an choice to make on the first card of a hand. Rest of the "card, no-card" choices are dictated by the rules of the game.
As with any strategy in a game of chance, this doesn't guarantee a win every time, but improves the odds you will be betting on winning hands.
