I personally think that a "Life" membership should not be able to be just bought. It should be earned. I don't think that a person (after only 3 years of good standing) should be able to pay $600 and have that "Life" membership status. I think that it should be reserved for those in the hobby (10+ years). They should be invited by and voted by other "Life" members. I think of the words "Life Member" as someone who has invested time, energy and compassion into this hobby. It just seems like the words "Life Member" are taken lightly. It is somewhat of a status symbol within our club.
The other side of the coin.....I understand that a person is buying a membership for the rest of their lives....and they are becoming a life long member. The club will get its funds in advance and not have to bother them with dues...ect. After 3 years of dues($90) and $600 for a lifetime membership the club would have $690. If they waited for the 10 years ($300) and invited them to join the "Life" club they would have the option of paying their Life dues $600 in lifetime equalling $900. (They would also be able to pay yearly with that status) It might benefit the club to have those extra years of dues as well. Just something to think about. This is also coming from someone who know nothing about the "behind the scenes" of all this. I'm sure a lot of negative feed back is coming my way...I felt like it was something I wanted to say. I'm not trying to offend any of the "life" members....I'm just saying that going forward we could consider changing the way someone gets there.
