Thanks, Jay. I hadn't seen the picture in James' guide. It's still there in the latest edition, but only with a red colored tail.
Description says it's Unique and an error. It should certainly be listed in TCR (as it is) but since only red-tail is known, I would question why a green tail (TCR E2775.1) would be listed. My guess is it is a trial or prototype. Hard to imagine how it could be an error made by the manufacturer... where would the hotstamp die come from?
I don't have a problem with the *X value. I think a number of collectors of dovetails would pay something in that range, depending on how it looks in person. Things like recent manufacture by a dealer or collector on a blank or resurfaced chip would certainly result in a lower value.
