the most simple theory which is usually the correct one;
is that a human clicks the show email, completes the captcha one time, then proceedes to copy and paste every poster's email into their log of people to spam with the fake email link.
I never liked how this form doesn't give posters an option to not receive email from other users, much like on most vbulletin boards.
