SUBJECT: HARRAH’S TUNICA
I regret to announce that we have made the difficult decision to close Harrah’s Tunica. All operations at the property will end on June 2, 2014. We reached the decision to close after exploring every other viable alternative. Business levels in Tunica have declined persistently over the last few years and there have been significant increases in competition. The closure of Harrah’s Tunica is a very painful step, but it is crucial to the lasting health and viability of our remaining operations in the area. While difficult, we believe that appropriately scaling and focusing our presence in the region will preserve jobs over the long-term.
Since joining our company in 2005, our colleagues at Harrah’s Tunica have done an outstanding job of caring for our guests, and for one another. Through some challenging times, they always have risen to the occasion with grace and enthusiasm. We will provide team members with access to resources to help them throughout the transition, including salary and healthcare continuation to eligible employees, priority opportunities to apply for open positions at other Caesars properties, relocation benefits, workshops on resume writing and interviewing skills, and unemployment assistance. In the days ahead, the Tunica leadership team will work closely with Harrah’s team members to provide specific details about the closure process and discuss all of the resources available to them.
Caesars Entertainment is committed to the Tunica market. We operate the market-leading Horseshoe Tunica, which is currently undergoing renovation and extensive improvements, as well as the Tunica Roadhouse Hotel and Casino.
On behalf of the entire Caesars family, I want to thank the team members at Harrah’s Tunica for your enthusiasm, professionalism, and commitment to delivering outstanding service. I ask everyone to offer support to our Tunica team members.
