Archie - what my point has been "all along" is NOT concerning what people "think" the word obsolete means... but to have people try consider what the #@!$# word ACTUALLY MEANS and apply it correctly.
You can poll America for people's opinions... and get a different one from every one one of them. (including me). What makes me curious now is are you waiting for "enough right answers" so you can use a word to describe something that doesn't REALLY fit?
US COINS THAT ARE WORTH THE DENOMINATION ON THEIR FACE - which is the "same amt" AS WHEN THEY WERE ISSUED and can be exchanged for different money, property or services for that amount... and are backed by the entity that issued them - regardless of age, denomination or condition are NOT OBSOLETE... PERIOD.
The Pony Express is obsolete... except in Prescott - since usually I am sure that is who delivers our mail.
