I very much doubt they were used in cuba and migrated in either direction... though the timeline is correct regarding monetary feform in France.

The "EC" Mother-of-Pearl chips were made for l'Eden Casino, Trouville, France, in 1896. They were made by CARO, Paris, France (their documents show this)... for several years up to 1911 when the casino was demolished in order to make way for the new casino. As with many other chips from Europa, they traveled after that... and then the 100f pieces turned up in both OH and IL in quantity... but only the 100f examples in blue natural. What you have the pleasure of reviewing below are two rare examples of a 20f which is both blue and natural as is the 100, and a 100f green and gold. Which suggests there were at least two different color combinations of the 100...

I see at ChipGuide examples of plastic chips from Uruguay marked as Cuba... and though I do not have a definite history as to why both locations are listed for the same chip, I can tell you that I have a Mother-of-Pearl example of the chip and it came straight up to me and placed in my hand and I have no doubt of its original origin in Uruguay...
