I wouldn't consider these to be different varieties. If there were other features in red (besides the denomination) and the 50c moved relative to the other red printing, I'd consider them two varieties. The Riviera 50c pinks are an example of several varieties because the artwork changed, not because of mis-registration of the red pass through the color press.
I'd have to see the chips themselves to express an opinion on the color of the crown. Is one of them metallic gold (requiring a dusting of brass powder to make it glitter)? If so, it could be a different variety. Just differences in brightness of the gold ink would not create a variety, in my opinion.
TCR authors have struck a good balance in the past in deciding what deserved a different catalog number (or suffix). Unfortunately, The Chip Guide seems to add just about anything submitted.
