In the minds of most of us Chippers, the word obsolete tends to mean that the chips are worth more because they are more difficult to obtain.
Again, I refer to California.
Although my opinions of chip values tend to lean on the low side , I personally value most of the "obsolete California chips" as almost worthless. Why? Because so many of them are worn to an extent that even the hot stamp can't be read. Although many are difficult to locate, most are not rare and to make things worse, very few people collect them.
Contrary to the opinion of one very well known and respected California dealer, I believe it will be another century or so before these chips will have any worth while value. By the way, I also feel the same way about Washington State chips, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, and Idaho.
There are thousands of these chips circulating about, but most are in the same unreadable condition. Now that I've bashed all these chips, let me state that, yes, I still collect them. .
