Hello all,
Hoping that someone with more experience in Ebay can chime in here...
I bought an antique lamp at www.ebay.fr - the auction was clearly for this art deco bronze lamp, with a specific (signed) glass shade. Both the lamp base and the shade were described in the auction and it was sold as a unit.
I paid for the lamp by bank transfer, as requested by the seller, within 24h of auction close.
The lamp arrived two days ago in Chile (my house). In the box is the lamp as described, the bulb hardware, and... no shade.
The box appeared sealed, no evidence of opening by Customs, indeed I didn't even have to pay import duty/tax - it was delivered to the door.
I opened a case with EBay immediately, saying that the item wasn't as described, and that I either request a refund, or that the shade is sent. I also mentioned that I needed to know if perhaps the vendor packed / shipped the shade separately for protection (that is a possibility).
To date, no response from the vendor (48h has passed) and I note they have received a negative from another buyer, which wasn't there when I bought. (Failure to describe damage on a piece of art glass.)
Any thoughts on how this may play out for me, and any suggestions as to what I should do? It was a moderately pricey item, and I don't want to 'eat' it. I probably would be able to find a replacement (period) shade that would suit, but that would cost me several hundred bucks again.
Cheers,
-Oke
