You could be right about the distributor.
In the book "South Bend and the Men who have Made It", published in 1901, says one dude was a
"member of the Commercial Athletic Club,
the Per-Se Club, the Turn Verein,
the Modern Samaritians and the W.O.W."
Probably a business club where the boys smoked cigars, drank whiskey and played some cards.
