You are making an unfair assumption. Your assumption being that the reason that he didn't bid was because time ran out.

He did not say that. Perhaps the reason he didn't bid was because the price got to high, or he decided he didn't want the chips.

I will agree that Ebay prices do not necessarily reflect the fair market value of an item, but then again that can be said about live auctions as well.
