Michael,
I emailed Lon Rusk at his Lakeside email addy, asking him if he had any photographs of the Thrifty Gambler? After a several day delay this was his reply...
"Wish I had pictures of the Thrifty Gambler. It was a fun summer job. I worked the dime craps game. Would get players four deep, some throwing in chips from the bar. Low limits made it popular with the college crowd.
Was originally Harrah's Lake Club where famous swing bands used to play.
Thanks for your interest."
Since he mentioned "chips" and there are no entries for same in the Guides, I asked if he any that he could snap a picture of? He replied:
"Sorry. I have nothing. Old timers told me they once used real dimes on the crap game. Dealt with one's thumbs. We used cheap gaming checks. Harrahs never washed them and they stuck together. What a mess. This was the summer of '69. Harvey's 25th anniversary complete with 25cent drinks; Mets won the World Series; man landed on the moon. Quite a summer."
I thank him for his time and that has been it!
I guess the quest continues! Good Luck!!
