very usefull!!!
In reading the narrative about the Chesterfield, it indicates the location to be on Gratiot, just south of 10 Mile. The several pictures of the Chesterfield (there are 3 of them) reflects a large sign with the numbers: "24845".
There is also mention of the free bus and taxi rides along Gratiot that took riders to the Chesterfield in the narrative noted above.
In a newspaper clipping at the link (the 2nd clipping) it is noted that the Chesterfield was made out to look like a garage. The buses and taxis just pulled in, the doors closed and passengers got off, got frisked and went to the upstairs gambling area.
Perhaps we have seen this info previously (or the link) in an IOTD, but if not, there is some nice info there on the Chesterfield Club (which it appears was also called the Chesterfield Inn). Also mentioned are places called The Chalet (later changed to Royale Club) and Blossum Heath Inn, which were also known to offer gambling.
Thanks Jim L!
