Damn Citizen! (1958)

This film is based on the true-to-life exploits of Colonel Francis C. Grevemberg, a WW II hero who single-handedly won a war against crime and corruption in his native Louisiana. Grevemberg, played by Andes, is invited by the new governor to serve as the superintendent of state police and to wage an all-out, no-holds-barred battle on the crime and corruption that has flourished in the state for years. He finds himself opposed at every turn, but with the aid of his staff he cleans up. The screenplay was written by Stirling Silliphant, who would go on to win an Oscar for his screenplay of IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT.
