There are 4 denominations -- $1, 5, 25, 100 -- in the set.
The chip could be used to purchase items in the store for the face amount of the chip, when active.
The chips were sold for face value, plus tax?, as I recall. Their motivation was to sell them into the collector market though.
They eventually discontinued the program, and some were then available for less than face value. Some of those have a scratch on the face of the chip as a cancellation mark.
