Unsolved Mysteries type shows on the murder. From what I remember the main suspect fled the state and went into hiding. He wound up in a poor part of some state in the south and was living with another man who he wound up killing. He was later captured and stood trial for that killing, but was found not guilty. There was also some strange details like he was in disguise or cross-dressing as a woman during his time on the lam.

I don't think he was ever charged with the killing of Berman.

I remember finishing that book back in 2000 or so and hearing about her murder about two weeks later. It was very strange.
