Poor David...he's very good to us .
" Pam, your house must be like the Smithsonian,
with a room devoted to each type of collectible because you
always have a great collectible to share no matter what anyone posts"
Thanks! You're right...that's a very nice compliment . But you're wrong...we don't have nearly enough rooms to devote a room to each type of collectible ...so it's all thrown together in one big happy jumble!
And as for...
OK, now post another cool picture of something I don't have and never new existed!
I had to think for a minute or two, but I think we have something . It's been quite awhile since I've posted it, probably it was before you found the chipboard.
In keeping with my recent posts of menus...and taking into consideration that you love downtown, here is a menu from Lillie Langtry's which was located at the Golden Nugget. We bought it from an ebay auction, and picked it up in person as the seller lived near Chicago and we go to the Chicago area pretty often. I don't remember the whole story now, but I'll do the best I can.
The lady we bought it from was living with her parents in the Chicago area, but many years earlier she had left home to move to Las Vegas. I think she got married and divorced during her time in Las Vegas, so ended up on her own. She got a roommate named Judith and the girls loved to go out to eat. Whenever they went out, they saved a menu from the restaurant and "wallpapered" their kitchen/dining area with menus. One night they went to Lillie Langtry's. This menu was on the maitre'd (sp?) stand, and Judith thought about it all during dinner. Judith was a big woman, and she was wearing a poncho (1970's). The girls timed their departure for a moment when the menu was unguarded, and it left the restaurant under Judith's poncho!! (the menu is painted on some kind of board, and including the frame is about 16" square, and has a wooden easel on the back...I don't care how big Judith was, that couldn't have been easy!)
This menu was all that our seller (can't remember her name...not sure why I remember Judith's name, but I do!) had left from her time in Las Vegas. I'm not sure of the sequence of events, but Judith passed away, and our ebay seller got a disease (MS I think) and couldn't live alone anymore. Our lady was very happy that the menu was going to someone who loves Las Vegas, and would treasure the menu...though perhaps not quite as much as she did, because of the personal connection she had.
The only other thing I remember about the story is that Judith had a motto..."Beer: it's not just for breakfast!"
