David, I believe that use of the term "elaborate"

may be an exaggeration. After all, the hoaxer was 'outted' rather rapidly! vbg

However, the reason for my reply here is to comment about a slight shift taking place here that has the potential to allow such scamming posts to a greater degree in the future. But this event was a fairly valid example of the potential.

This is not meant to be a criticism, and is being offered as an observation. Perhaps something to consider by TCB readers when reading posts.

One of the basic tenants of making a post here is that we use our real names or an identification that ties back to a real persona. In many respects this has allowed many readers to rather quickly weed out scam and 'bot' posts.

But when posting is tolerated from non real entities, or by a poster using a 'non de plume' that does NOT reply to reply posts (thereby giving the appearance of being a 'bot') it all works to erode the reliability and confidence we have amongst ourselves; TheChipBoard community.

I know that there will always be people looking to scam us and posts from trolls and 'bots' but the more we move away from personal association in our posts, the harder it will be to weed out that junk, which can also be expressed as 'it will make it easier to dupe some of us'.

Again, just an observation, but perhaps something to discuss here.

I love this place, our home, especially when it can be a bit of a safe haven for us.

David, bottom line, Thank you for carrying on Greg's legacy!

Jim
