I ahve had several conversations with Jim Blanchard on this topic. Jim believes, although not sure, that there maybe a bit of a cross over period where both USPC and Burt made chips. I believe USPC made c&s up to at least 1948. Although the USPC "records" (salesman sample books) only go up to 1938, I my latest USPC made BPOE is for lodge 1747 which was organized in 1948
Jim is not sure when Burt started making c&s but believe the late 1940s, which seems to dovetail nicely with the end of USPC chip making.
The question is: was the Reno Sphynx around in the late 1940s. If not, I would rule out Reno. If the club was around in the late 1940s, then I ask again, is it an "i" or a "y" on the chip? Our "friend of the hobby" emailed me that he doesn't think the Sphinx is Hollywood --- yikes!!!!!
