I thought I was going to get skunked today. Was looking around for an hour or more and had not found a thing. Finally got some of the silver and just before I went to the bank to make the clubs deposit I found the gold necklace piece. I was in an apartment complex having a community sale and was asking everyone if they had any old coins or jewelry. This older lady said she may have some and went inside to get it. This piece was the only thing of interest and she wanted to know if it was old. I looked at it an looked at it and looked at it and didn't find any markings. I told her it may not be old because of how the pearls were mounted (with a hole thru them). But the piece still looked good to me. The fourth time I looked at the mounting ring I saw something that I thought said 14K but was badly mangled. I took a chance and offered her $100 for it since she was saying how she really didn't want to sell it. This fat lady sat down next to us and offered her $120 after she had accepted my $100 offer. I upped it to $125 and she accepted and then the other lady offered $150. The lady said sorry but it was sold to me. It checks out to be 14K gold and weighs 12.8 grams so there is about 10-12 grams of gold in it or about $200-250. Plus the value of it as a nice old piece. The stones look to be garnet or possibly (but I doubt it) ruby. I nice find that should pay for all of this years yard sale gas. I also got two cordless telephones and a bag of curtain connectors (with $.44 in change in it!) all from a free box. I needed the battery for my cordless phone that died yesterday. Nice finds before getting on the big bird for the convention Monday.
