Afraid the combined costs of postage and duty mean its just not worth it anymore.
I bought a nice chip for $23.50 on Ebay - even with the seller's $11 shipping costs it was a good deal for a chip I wanted to be mailed to the UK. Unfortunately customs are not only being tougher on all imports, but the exchange rate isn't great - purchases over £15 (which is around the $23.50 that I paid) attract VAT at 20% PLUS (and this is the killer!) the post office add a $12 charge on top. So a $23.50 chip becomes around $53. Just not worth it any more. So either I only buy chips that cost face value, or such expensive chips that the fees are less of a percentage (which is outside of my budget). I tried to find a US mail service that I could send all purchases to and just pick up once a year on holiday, but no such service. So I guess I now just buy those face value chips or from non-US sellers. Guess the gaps in my USA collection are going to be there a long time.
OK, rant over. Off to see what I can find on Ebay.co.uk
