When I first started coming to casinos in Vegas, I started to pick up a $1 token as a momento from each casino, and when I realized that you would find tokens from other casinos in the payouts then it became interesting to try and find others. What I did find of course were that most tokens were quite beat up, so my wife suggested taking one of the chips from the tables instead as they tended to be in good shape. So I started looking at the chips and realize that there were all these different designs.....and so it started!
Once I got online a couple of years later, I did some searching and came across The Chip Ring that linked collectors and that eventually led me to the Club. I believe it may have been Greg Susong that alerted me to the Club, as he was one of the collectors that I found on The Chip Ring, trading riverboats for my UK chips from my local casinos.
The point is, with no tokens these days, and no LEs, there is little to grab the attention of would-be collectors. Even now, when I play at the Paris when I am in Vegas, over the few days I am there I always find a couple of people who notice the few LEs that they come across in the Paris chips, and maybe ask the dealer about them or take them as a souvenir. I like to think that if even one in a hundred are collectors (and we all know you are either a collector or you are not ), then that could be a new member at some time.
What I still don't understand is why the change in attitude from the gaming authorities - there seems to be a lot of speculation on TCB, and several views as to why the decision has not been made, but not much to suggest why the decision HAS been made.
