and interestingly is being bought by the same people who tried to buy it in 2011, a company called Dania Entertainment. Boyd Gaming will sell the Florida Jai-Alai Fronton and Poker Room for $65.5 million. Boyd paid $152 million in 2006 which means they are taking a loss of 86.5 million. The original deal called for Dania Entertainment to pay $80 million but Boyd cancelled the deal after Dania Entertainment failed to meet a payment deadline.

According to an article in the Sun Sentinel (see http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2013-03-01/news/fl-dania-sale-030113-20130228_1_dania-entertainment-barton-seidler-louis-birdman) the new owners want to gut the property, renovate it and turn it into an $80 million dollar casino, hotel with restaurants, bars, lounges, shops and a Marina and obviously no more Jai-Alai which mean that there only now be a handful of Jai-Alai frontons left in the U.S. and all in the State of Florida (Fort Piece, Hamilton, Miami, Ocala and Orlando).

The deal is tentatively scheduled to close on or about May 24th.
