Here is the dust-jacket of City Without Clocks, by LV journalist Ed Reid. I bought it because James references it in his book for pictures of early Las Vegas chips, in particular the Silver Slipper Zig-Zag mold. Reid also authored "Green Felt Jungle".

Unfortunately, the book is 50 years old and the colors have faded quite a bit. I can't be sure the Silver Slipper is even a $5 chip, but all the others are $5, so probably it is.

Strange that we don't see more chips from that era. I don't have ANY of them! If you had saved these 15 $5 chips 50 years ago, you would have quite a collection. I wonder if the author kept them. I can find nothing on the web about him except references to his books.
