I usually scan at 150 dpi, which gives you a screen image about 1 1/2 times the original.

When you save it as a JPEG file, use a quality in the 5 to 8 range. You will still get excellent screen resolution but the file size will be much smaller. I try for around 100K to 200K file sizes.
