When you write in English the peso is used and when speaking or writing in the Tagalog - the National Language of the Philippines you use the "piso".

Jim if you confined your visit to Manila you will hear the "piso" but once you go out from Manila or Central Luzon lets say to the Northern or Southern Luzon the variations in the language is very distinct. And it gets muddier as you go to the Visayas and more so in Mindanao.

Remember that there are 7200 islands in the Philippines and they all have their own sound words. As if I am trying to confuse the reader which is the truth - it is more confusing than anything you can imagine.

The biggest obstacle to the national character building of the nation is more due to the language problem.
